Both my mother and I are breast cancer patients. We were diagnosed just months apart. Chemotherapy changed our skin and complexions greatly. I was thrown into menopause and my skin was dry and lifeless. My mother's skin lost all it's elasticity and became very thin and transparent. We went to the American Cancer Society's 'Look Good, Feel Better' program in hopes of finding makeup products that could help us regain a healthy look. They gave us large boxes filled to the brim with expensive cosmetics from all the top companies. There must have been four to five hundred dollars worth of makeup in each box. I received my package in the mail yesterday. I felt like a kid in the mirror trying all these new products. I had been expecting the powder experience to be similar to the Clinic translucent powder I used to use (different ingredients though, of course). But I can't believe how unmessy this whole process is- I used to get powder everywhere with the Clinic jar that has lots of holes in the top. Also, I think the coverage your powder gives is impressive - having never tried anything like it before, I'm amazed. On a good day, (or time of the month!), I won't even need to use concealer, yet my boyfriend can't tell I'm wearing anything, which is a good thing because he's prefers a natural look! Last week I received the sample set in the mail. I was thrilled with the packaging and the generous sample sizes! I have been using the products and I must say I really love them. I feel wonderful about using chemical-free, natural products on my skin. . .and I decided to switch to mineral makeup for several reasons. In my search for cruelty-free cosmetics, I found Afterglow on the EWG - Skin Deep Web Site. It is almost impossible to find a foundation to match my skin tone, so I emailed the color of foundation and the brand I normally use to Customer Service. Since my mother was recently diagnosed with breast cancer, my worries about how women are getting breast cancer increased. After discovering the EWG.com website and checking all of my 'lotions and potions' to see what risk they provided . . . I tossed everything out! I had been a Mary Kay customer for at least 10 years, and had a lot of cosmetics to replace. To my relief, I only had to purchase the Afterglow foundation, blush, lip liner and lipstick. I simply mix the powder with my moisturizer, and I'm good to go. I think the blush will probably last forever. . . I use a very micro amount and get great results! The lip liner lasts all day and I feel much better about using a natural lip liner/lipstick since it is, after all, a product that is right on my mouth! I read about Afterglow products in an article in Alternative Medicine Magazine. Because I was fed up with the use of chemicals by many companies in the cosmetics industry, I decided to give Afterglow a try. I threw away all of my old makeup, and decided to make a fresh start. This was my first try at mineral foundation. At first I was a bit skeptical, thinking how could a powder possibly cover and even out my skin tones and discolorations, but boy was I wrong! After some experimentation, I finally came up with mixing the mineral powder with my everyday moisturizer. What great coverage and you use so little, it lasts a long time. I have been meaning to write since I received my product, but now that I have waited I have discovered more good things to say about it! Afterglow Cosmetics is simply the most wonderful makeup I have ever used. It has the lightest feel, for the first few days my skin felt so light I couldn't believe I was wearing my makeup and had to check in the mirror to be sure I really was! I use very little to get the coverage I want and it never cakes or clumps like standard liquid or cake makeup, especially under my eyes. A benefit I didn't expect is how gently it can be applied -- I never feel like I am stretching or pulling on delicate skin when I apply the foundation as a concealer. The powder sticks exactly where I want it to (particularly in places liquid makeup wouldn't apply, like at the corners of my eyes) and blends flawlessly, so I use much less product than before and it looks more natural. The bronzer is never something I thought I would use, as I have light skin and never tan, but it works great as a natural blush and for highlighting and I use it almost everyday. The sample set is also great and will forever be my travel makeup because it is such a great size and easy to pack all of your everyday cosmetics in a single sweep! AFTERGLOW is my favorite mineral makeup. I have used other "bare" mineral brands in the past and I was not thrilled with the 'unusual glowy' look. That was the main reason why I switched to AFTERGLOW. I also LOVE the color (Medium Light 1)! It's a perfect match.....I truly can't believe it.....I've been searching for a long time to find a foundation that matches my skin tone without leaving a face/neck mark....and this product works. I just recently received my Afterglow products in the mail. I must say I am quite impressed with the quality of the products. Certainly a little goes a long way. I do have to experiment more to find the right techniques for applying however. I do have quality brushes and have been using loose powder foundation for a very long time. However, with your product, application is different. You do not need to use the amount of foundation you would typically use with other loose powder products. I've tried many different types of hypoallergenic cosmetics, trying to find some that don't irritate my skin, especially the delicate skin around my eyes. I absolutely LOVE Afterglow Cosmetics. The mineral foundation is flawless and looks so natural. Here's what I do: 1) Powder brush to dust on the translucent setting powder over my t-zone to control oil. 2) Apply the mineral foundation lightly with a kabuki brush. 3) A blending brush is used for under eye circles. 4) Dust on setting powder w/ powder brush. 5) Apply blush lightly w/ slanted blush brush. 6) Apply setting powder again. This application process applied once lasts me throughout the day, with one or two touch-ups. I will definitely repurchase! mineral foundationI tried Afterglow's sample set of multi-tasking foundation. It was a great way to find exactly my shade as well as chance to try some blush colors (I like both) and also the setting powder. You do also get quite a bit of use out of just the sample set. I've never worn foundation before because normal cosmetics have too many chemicals and other scary things in them, and I never liked how normal makeup felt on my skin. I read an article about how cosmetics could contribute to breast cancer. My daughter and I eat all organic and have been trying for a long time to find a natural makeup that covered well and didn't affect our skin. We have tried other minerals make-ups: they smelled, made our skin dry and our nose swollen, and didn't cover very well. Seems your glimmery eye shadows and powder eye liner are the only brand I'm not allergic to. I was skeptical if Afterglow would work for my and my dark circles under my eyes. Boy was I wrong! Thank you for making a mineral foundation that does not contain Bismuth Oxychloride and thus is not shiny (or itchy)! I have extremely sensitive skin and cannot wear chemical sunscreens. The mineral sun protection found in your loose foundation is perfect. I find the best application of foundation for my dry skin is to moisturize, wait ten minutes, gently wipe excess moisturizer off my face with a cotton pad, apply translucent setting powder and then finally apply foundation. I've tried many 'all-natural' cosmetics in the past in a quest to keep my skin healthy, only to find that many of the ingredients were anything BUT natural. Many cosmetics claiming to be natural contain caustic chemicals and other ingredients that cause breakouts and skin damage. I have to admit, I was very skeptical about a powder that could supposedly cover as good as a liquid makeup. But Afterglow absolutely does and then some! I am a professional cosmetologist who has tried countless name brand cosmetics. After finding out about the harmful ingredients in virtually all the makeup I have ever used, I decided to switch to healthier products. Hey Afterglow! I just threw out all my old makeup and switched to minerals. I ordered all your pencil eyeliners and just received them in the mail today. I cannot thank you enough for producing such a wonderful line of mineral cosmetics. I wished I had found you much, much earlier. I have sensitive skin and as a result suffered from regular break outs. In order to cover up the pimples, I used branded foundation/ concealers from department stores. They covered up the pimples, however, at the same also made them worse. I was never able to get rid of them completely. It was a vicious circle. I have pretty fair skin. I was first attracted to your products since I have sensitive skin and need makeup with an SPF. I have also had major problems finding a foundation and blush that fit my skin tone and didn't look weird or chalky. Most leave a dark or pink line around my jaw line that is just embarrassing. Afterglow's website provided me with the most comprehensive information that I was looking for in finding a mineral power/foundation. It provided me with confidence in trying the product because it showed me that the company obviously did plenty of research and took care into making their products. I ordered a sample set and when I found a shade that fit me, I could not stop using it. The minerals feel so light on my skin that I forget I'm wearing it because it does not irritate my sensitive skin. I also have dry skin so after washing my face, I apply a moisturizer and let it absorb into the skin before applying the mineral foundation. A little goes a long way and the result is a more even skin tone. The blush is great also! Once again, a little goes a long way and the added color provides definition, a healthy glow and contoured polish look. There is nothing better than this product for full coverage that looks like you are barely wearing anything at all. I tried other mineral foundations and they left my skin with a waxy appearance.
